Back to residencies
This is us outside the Shacks.
Last week at St. Colman's Bann I brought the pupils on a visit to Belfast to view my installation in a garden shed in Botanic Gardens, as part of the Belfast Children's Festival. 5 artists were commissioned to make a piece of work on the theme of the 5 senses & my theme was 'Touch' . Our photo shows some of the girls in my shed. We had a fantastic day & experienced & interacted with all the senses as well as viewing all the beautiful flowers in bloom in the gardens a& the exotics in the Tropical Ravine & the Palm House. We saw the 2 thousand year old mummy wrapped in linen no less !
Today we are preparing for our Open Day tomorrow , dancing & finishing off work.
We have been projecting a film onto three dimensional circular piece of muslin to great effect. We have also been experiment with movement through and around this.
We have rediscovered our joy of sewing and have been working with mark making from our film. Our picture shows us with our threads.
last week we worked with our cut out fabric pieces and sewed into these and then we experimented with lighting from behind as our picture shows.
last week here at St. Colman's we had avisit from Orla & heather which was brilliant as they helped us a lot with our technical difficulties and we are now able to get online & upload from school. We taught Orla & Heather our dances and did some filming for the first time. The films turned out really well & you can watch our ' Willow Basket' dance from last week. This week we have been doing some drawing from the films, you can see Adam in this week's photo standing at the projector while Shannon's film of 'The Waves Of Tory' is playing.

The children of Miss Mc Cann's class have been learning a dance called 'Willow Basket' and have really mastered it, our photo is a close up of the pattern.
Today has been a seriously frustrating day technologically . was unable to get online, unable to install printer & then unable to install scanner onto Apple laptop . This I suppose is the reality of 'Multimedia " experimentations , it is 10 55 pm & I have finally successfully uploaded - HURRAH ! Please enjoy photo it has taken alot of work to get here ! We have danced ' The Waves of Tory ' though & the P 7 s are brilliant at it . Hopefully things will get easier again after Easter .
Winter School was excellent.I was really pleased with how my work/show came together and looked in the space and in the context of the show as a whole alongside the other artist's work.It was the first time I have made and shown any fabric work for about 7 years ,and it has been a real confidence building experience for me in terms of my practise. I feel my work is in progress and these are very positive beginnings.Iloved seeing the other artist's work in 'Response' and it has been an extremely inspiring and motivating experience having time with all Kids Own Crew and Artists for 4 days. I am very excited about next phase of residency.
